Students Earn National Merit Scholarship Recognition

Deeya and Mateen

Two Pine-Richland High School seniors, Mateen Hasan and Deeya Nayyar, earned National Merit Scholarship semifinalist qualification scores by ranking in the top 16,000 scores of more than 1.3 million students nationwide.

Mateen and Deeya may go on to be recognized as National Merit finalists, which would provide them an opportunity to qualify for National Merit Scholarships. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation provides just under 7,000 scholarship opportunities to National Merit finalists and nearly $26 million in scholarships to students to support higher education.

Commended Scholars

Eighteen Pine-Richland seniors were among 1.3 million students who took the PSAT/NMSQT National Merit Qualifying Test last year and scored in the top 50,000, which identifies them as National Merit Commended Scholars.
