Twenty-One Art Students Earn Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
Twenty-one of Mr. Ramon Riley and Mrs. Mary Anne Andreassi’s art students recently won 33 awards in the regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition, including four Gold Key Awards and 11 Silver Key Awards. These awards are considered the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious fine arts awards for students.
Jimena Belda, Amelia Hackel, Charlie Ozelski and Benjamin Santiago received Gold Key Awards. Gold Key winners move on to national judging, the results of which will be announced in late March.
Silver Key Award winners include Megan Black (2), John Folino, Cadence Foote, Amelia Hackel, Serafina Julio, Kaylee Koch, Kiera Moskala, Erin Murray, Charlie Ozelski and Brooklyn Ramirez.
In addition to earning a Gold Key Award, Charlie Ozelski is an American Visions nominee, the program’s Best in Show award, for Happy Meals. Two students were awarded for their portfolios: Kiera Moskala earned a Silver Key Award and Megan Black earned an Honorable Mention.
Gold and silver award-winning works and winning portfolios will be displayed at Carnegie Mellon University’s Fine Arts Building from February 25 – March 9. Award winners will be honored in a ceremony on March 9.
Since 1923, the awards have recognized some of the nation’s most celebrated artists and writers while they were teenagers, including Tschabalala Self, Stephen King, Kay WalkingStick, José Parlá, Amanda Gorman, Charles White, Joyce Carol Oates and Andy Warhol.
Congratulations to all of our talented student artists!
